U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent Urges Senate to Fast-Track CLARITY Act

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged the Senate to continue the legislative process for the CLARITY Act, a bill on the market structure for digital assets.

In a post on X on the 9th, Secretary Bessent described the CLARITY Act as legislation that would establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets and prevent malicious actors from exploiting related technologies.

“When the Senate returns from its August recess, I strongly urge all parties to remain at the negotiating table, vote in favor of the motion to begin consideration on the Senate floor, and continue the legislative process,” he said.

He warned that failure to advance the bill could signal to both allies and adversaries that the United States lacks the will to lead the future of digital assets. He also argued that it could result in abandoning enhanced national security tools to prevent the misuse of digital assets.
