The CFTC plans to continue pursuing cryptocurrency market rules under existing law despite the Senate’s failure to advance the Clarity Act. Chair Mike Selig said investors need regulatory clarity, legal certainty and consumer protection.

Senator Angela Alsobrooks said discussions on the CLARITY Act should continue after a cloture vote failed to secure the 60 votes required in the Senate. She said the bill would not fail and cited a responsibility to regulate an industry involving more than 70 million Americans.

CoinEx will wind down its exchange operations in stages from September 15 and halt spot trading from September 29. Withdrawals will remain available through December 22, while CoinEx Wallet and CoinEx Vault will not be affected.

He said existing regulatory authority could support continued rulemaking, while passage of the bill could increase policy certainty and accelerate innovation.
