Nate Geraci, president of Novadius Wealth Management, said progress on the CLARITY Act is positive for the cryptocurrency industry, but that whether the bill passes will not determine the industry’s future.
Geraci explained that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) under the Trump administration are highly likely to continue developing cryptocurrency-related rules by using their existing legal authority, regardless of whether the CLARITY Act passes.
He argued that a future administration could reverse some policies, but the cryptocurrency industry is changing so rapidly that by the time political leaders try to reverse those changes, significant transformation may already have taken place across the financial system.
However, he added that passage of the CLARITY Act could strengthen confidence that regulatory policies would not be easily overturned by changes in future administrations and could accelerate innovation in the industry.
