Crypto super PAC Fairshake plans to spend $30 million on an effort to prevent former Senator Sherrod Brown, a crypto skeptic, from returning to the Senate.
Fairshake, one of the major political action committees representing the U.S. crypto industry, is reportedly planning to spend $30 million to block former Senator Sherrod Brown’s return to Congress. The spending is expected to be Fairshake’s largest single-candidate expenditure this year.
The move gained momentum shortly after the Senate recently failed to advance the CLARITY Act, which addresses crypto market structure and regulatory frameworks. The crypto industry is understood to be reallocating its political influence and concentrating funds in key electoral districts following the bill’s failure.
Brown, a Democrat, is currently running for the U.S. Senate in Ohio in an effort to return to Congress. If the former Senate Banking Committee chairman, who previously pushed strongly for industry regulation, returns to the Senate, he is widely considered likely to again take on a key leadership role, such as chair or ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee, based on his seniority.
Fairshake therefore plans to launch a major campaign against his election, including extensive advertising and direct-mail efforts. Industry observers view the move as a strategic attempt to prevent a regulatory hardliner from rejoining the Banking Committee, a central body for crypto policy, in advance.
