Foreign media: Binance could cover $6.3 billion hacking loss with 6–15 months of platform revenue

Binance, the global cryptocurrency exchange hit by a record $6.3 billion (approximately 8.7 trillion won) hacking loss, could cover the entire amount with just six to 15 months of revenue thanks to the platform’s inherent cash-generating capacity, according to an analysis by foreign media.

According to Cointelegraph, Binance announced that it had replenished and compensated for approximately 95% of the assets stolen in last week’s breach using its own corporate capital and insurance funds, among other resources. The exchange also resumed its asset withdrawal service as scheduled on November 1.

Binance is a privately held company and does not publicly disclose official financial statements. However, when major credible estimates are considered together, it appears to have sufficient financial buffers. In an interview last March, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao estimated the exchange’s annual net profit at approximately $5 billion. Bloomberg estimated in June that Binance’s trailing 12-month (TTM) revenue was approximately $10.7 billion. Based on these figures, the $6.3 billion loss is equivalent to roughly six to 15 months of Binance’s operating revenue or profit, meaning it could be absorbed through the company’s own operations without leading to insolvency or a cascade of exchange failures, as occurred in the cases of Mt. Gox and FTX.

The analysis also examined the broader cash-flow structure of the cryptocurrency industry. At present, the largest sources of revenue in the crypto ecosystem are stablecoin issuers such as Tether, which earn interest income on their reserves, and large centralized exchanges (CEXs). However, high-performance perpetual futures decentralized exchanges (Perp DEXs) such as Hyperliquid (HYPE), along with memecoin launchpad platforms, have recently emerged as major revenue generators by absorbing substantial on-chain fees. This is intensifying competition over platform revenue diversification and on-chain infrastructure, the analysis added.
