The Reasons Behind SUI’s Recent Rise and Its Outlook

SUI’s recent uptrend has been particularly notable. Over the past week, SUI has recorded gains far exceeding those of the overall crypto market and major smart-contract platforms. In particular, it is worth noting that SUI has shown relative strength beyond simply following Bitcoin’s rise.

The development I find most interesting in this rally is Sui’s renewed focus on “6 million TPS and the Agentic Economy.”

In a public experiment conducted on July 4, Sui recorded a peak of 6,086,766 TPS. That is approximately 20 times higher than the roughly 297,000 TPS recorded in its previous controlled testing environment. However, this figure should not be understood as meaning that the Sui mainnet processed 6 million ordinary transactions per second. In the experiment, AI agents and users processed transactions involving games, payments, and chats through an off-chain channel called programmable tunnels, with the results settled on the Sui mainnet when the channel was closed.

Even so, I believe this experiment is meaningful.

That is because the context changes when we consider that, at this point, many predict the future of blockchain will evolve beyond people simply sending and receiving coins toward AI agents making payments and conducting transactions with one another. Unlike humans, AI can generate countless transactions around the clock, 24 hours a day. If the so-called “machine-to-machine economy” becomes a reality, it will require far greater processing capacity and faster settlement infrastructure than existing blockchains. Sui, however, is seeking to gain an early foothold in precisely this market.

The central theme of “Sui Basecamp 2026,” which will be held at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on October 7–8, is also the Agentic Economy. In particular, on October 7, Mysten Labs will attempt a public experiment on the main stage to break its previous record of 6,086,766 TPS. This time, cybersecurity firm CertiK will participate as an independent auditor, and all transactions are scheduled to be recorded cryptographically for subsequent verification. In my view, this could also become an important catalyst.

The value of SUI will not be determined by the single figure of 6 million TPS. Over the long term, metrics such as actual users, stablecoin liquidity, DeFi TVL, and institutional adoption are far more important. However, in the crypto market, how the market connects a technology with a particular narrative is just as important as the technology itself. In other words, marketing matters too.

In that respect, the story Sui is currently building is relatively clear.

AI → AI agents → machine-to-machine economic activity → ultra-high-frequency transactions and payments → blockchain infrastructure to process them → Sui

If this chain of connections begins to gain credibility in the market, Sui could move beyond being simply “one of the fast Layer 1 blockchains” and come to be recognized as “infrastructure for the AI agent economy.”

I believe recent price action also reflects some of these expectations. Over the past week, SUI has posted higher gains than the overall crypto market and other smart-contract platforms, while trading volume has also increased significantly.

Of course, this rally cannot be explained by a single piece of news about 6 million TPS.

Several factors are working simultaneously: the recent rebound in the crypto market, SUI’s breakout above technical resistance, the formation of a double bottom, increased trading volume, and expanded futures-market positioning accompanied by short covering. In addition, actual use cases within the Sui ecosystem are gradually accumulating, including Daya’s recent adoption of African stablecoin payment infrastructure, tZERO’s development of institutional-grade digital-securities infrastructure, and Neuberger’s support for a tokenized fund.

SUI’s recent rise should be viewed as the result of these various factors and the broader conditions being established around it.

The event that deserves the most attention going forward is, once again, October 7.

If Basecamp produces a result only slightly above the existing 6 million TPS record, the market may regard it as an outcome that had already been anticipated. Conversely, if the result significantly surpasses the previous record and CertiK’s independent verification is completed successfully, it could lend considerable strength to Sui’s narrative as “a blockchain for the AI Agentic Economy.”

Conversely, if the experiment fails or technical problems arise, it is also necessary to bear in mind the possibility of disappointment-driven selling, given that expectations have already been reflected in the price.

Whether Sui can connect this technology to payments and finance, as well as to the AI agent economy—which could grow rapidly in the future—is an interesting question to watch, and from our perspective as investors, it could represent a good opportunity.

If technological performance actually leads to real-world use, the current rise could become the beginning of a larger trend.

However, do not place too much faith in it. As investors, we must always remember that altcoins are vulnerable assets that can collapse at any time.
