The U.S. government is reportedly considering measures to support expanding the use of dollar-based stablecoins in overseas markets.
According to Bloomberg, the U.S. government is examining policy options that could support the global expansion of dollar stablecoins. This aligns with its existing policy direction of using dollar-based stablecoins as a means of maintaining and expanding the international influence of the U.S. dollar.
In January 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order on “Strengthening American Leadership in Digital Financial Technology.” As one of the policies aimed at protecting the sovereignty of the U.S. dollar, the order specified “measures to promote the worldwide development and growth of lawful and trusted dollar-backed stablecoins.”
In July of the same year, President Trump signed the GENIUS Act, establishing the first U.S. federal regulatory framework for payment stablecoins.
