Malware designed to drain assets from Solana and major blockchain wallets is being distributed by using an alleged leak of Rockstar Games’ upcoming title, GTA 6, as bait, prompting warnings for users to exercise caution.
According to cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes, a cryptocurrency wallet drainer was discovered on a fake website posing as a seller of an unreleased version of Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated GTA 6, U.Today reported.
The site asks visitors to pay $50 or 1 SOL to purchase the leaked version and encourages them to connect their wallets. If users approve a transaction or permission request, not only the purchase payment but nearly the entire balance in the wallet may be transferred to attackers, or exposed to subsequent asset theft.
In particular, the malware was found to be designed to target multiple multichain networks simultaneously, including not only the Solana network but also Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Base and Phantom.
Crypto-linked security threats exploiting intense public interest ahead of the game’s release continue, as seen in the earlier case in which the hacker who leaked unreleased GTA 6 footage promoted a self-issued meme coin (CYBERLEEK) before withdrawing the funds.
