Bitcoin’s annual inflation rate has fallen below 1%, while the U.S. broad money supply (M2) has increased by approximately 78% over the past 10 years.
According to Bitcoin data platform Bitview, the U.S. M2 money supply rose from approximately $13.1 trillion 10 years ago to $23.342 trillion currently. Over the same period, Bitcoin’s rate of new issuance has continued to decline through successive halvings.
Bitview explained that only approximately 900,000 BTC of Bitcoin’s maximum supply of 21 million BTC remains unmined. Through halvings, which occur approximately every four years, Bitcoin’s block reward is reduced by half, causing the growth rate of new supply to converge toward 0% over the long term.
Contrasting Bitcoin’s limited supply structure with the continuously expanding dollar money supply, Bitview added, “Which one you choose is up to you.”
