On-chain analyst Willy Woo recently said, based on his analysis, that approximately 5% of the world’s population currently holds Bitcoin (BTC). This is higher than the 4% share of people who own the S&P 500, a leading index of the U.S. stock market. The analysis used Willy Woo’s proprietary Bitcoin holder-count metric, which is based on data from Glassnode.
“At this stage, with the share of Bitcoin holders at around 5%, Bitcoin is still primarily regarded as a financial asset,” Willy Woo explained. However, he added that “if this share rises to around 50%, it could signal the full-fledged emergence of a ‘separation of money and state,’” pointing to the possibility of long-term change.
